Day 2.

Lorel was the one to find Judy this morning - before I had even mentioned looking for her. She pointed to Judy and said, "Santa Claus!" Not quite right... but on the right track I guess. The girls have really taken to that little Elf and I'm glad I decided to add the Elf to my Christmas "to-do" list. Although....

Ila got upset tonight at dinner because she said she was worried about her Daddy who was all alone at work, without his family. I tried to show her when he would be back, pointing to the day on our Christmas Countdown, but she got more upset that it was so many days away. I told her to come over and sit in my lap and as I was trying to calm her down, she asked if Judy was going back to the North Pole to talk to Santa tonight. I assured her that Judy would leave and come back and that's when Ila started the ugly cry. I could barely understand her at that point, but I managed to get something about "Judy talk to Santa an tell him bad dehavior an I never get any presents adain!"

Noooooo! The exact thing that I didn't want to happen, has happened! I didn't want the Elf on the Shelf to be something that made Ila fear getting in trouble because she wouldn't get gifts! I tried to have a conversation with her about how everyone has bad behavior sometimes - even Momma. But no matter what kind of bad behavior she had, she would always be a good girl, with a good heart. I told her that every Christmas, for the rest of her life, she would get presents because someone loved her. My heart just broke for her as she sat there and cried in my lap. She is so tender-hearted. I FINALLY got the subject changed to guessing what our Christmas activity would be tomorrow and she eventually calmed down. Oh, the things that lie ahead for me in her teenage years....
